Background Knowledge

Everyone is starting this class with different knowledge. You’ve taken different classes in high school, and some of you may already be deep into your undergrad here at Berkeley. Some people took more biology, some more math. This course assumes some background in biology and calculus. However, we will derive equations from first principles! Later in your coursework, you will also need to start from first principles. Please view this as the bedrock of your engineering tool kit!

Appendices

The goal of the appendices is to present some background knowledge that may be helpful for understanding the material. Please refer to it as needed. At present, the class has very little hands-on programming - sections on Python and data structures may not be relevant.
